About Cogveil
A Workshop Built on Patience
We have been working on watches in Phuket Old Town since 2009. The approach has not changed: look carefully, explain plainly, and do only what is needed.
Back to HomeOur Story
From One Bench in Old Town
Cogveil started in 2009 when Nattapong Wattana — trained in Switzerland and with several years at a Bangkok service centre — returned to Phuket and opened a small workshop on Thanon Thalang. The building, a Sino-Portuguese shophouse with thick walls and good light, has been the workshop ever since.
The name Cogveil refers to the gear train that sits just beneath the dial: the part of a watch that does the quiet, essential work out of sight. That was the idea — to focus on what is actually happening inside a movement, rather than on appearances.
Over the years we have added two more watchmakers and a small front room where customers can sit and talk through what they have. The services we offer — strap and bracelet refits, dial and hands refinishing, and complication overhauls — have stayed the same because they cover the things watches most often need.
We do not rush. A complication overhaul involves disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and a multi-day running check. The watch goes back when we are satisfied it is running as it should, not before.
Our Mission
To keep mechanical and quartz watches in good working order for as long as their owners want to wear them, by doing careful work and explaining it honestly.

Values We Work By
- Honesty first. We say what needs doing and what does not. If nothing needs doing, we say so.
- Conservative work. We do not refinish beyond what improves function or legibility.
- Clear pricing. Prices are stated upfront. Scope changes are agreed before work continues.
- Time to settle. A movement that has just been serviced needs time to find its rate. We build that time in.

How We Work
Standards We Follow
These are not aspirations — they are the actual practices we apply to every service, every time.
Assessment Before Agreement
No work begins until the watch is inspected. We share what we find and agree on what to do before lifting a tool. This means no surprises at collection.
Proper Lubrication
Movements receive the correct grade lubricants at each pivot point. Using the right viscosity for the right component is not optional — it determines how long the service holds.
Multi-Day Running Check
Overhauled movements run in multiple positions over several days before collection. We record the rate and share the results with customers who want them.
Written Adjustment Record
Complication overhauls include a written summary of what was found, what was adjusted, and what parts were replaced. This document travels with the watch.
Customer Data Handling
Contact details given at the time of booking are used for service communication only. We do not share them with other parties or use them for other purposes.
Coverage on Mechanical Work
If a fault we addressed returns within the coverage period, we examine the watch again without a repeat charge for that specific issue. The period is stated at the time of collection.
Watch Servicing in Phuket — What We Actually Do
Cogveil operates from Phuket Old Town, on the heritage stretch of Thanon Thalang. The area attracts people who know the neighbourhood — local residents, visitors who stay in the old quarter, and collectors who want somewhere they can speak to the person doing the work. That is who we serve.
Our three services cover the most frequent maintenance needs for mechanical and quartz watches: fitting and adjusting straps and bracelets, light refinishing of dials and hands, and full overhauls of calendar and moon-phase complications. Each has a stated price and a defined scope, so there is no ambiguity about what is included.
Watchmaking involves small things done carefully. A spring bar that is the wrong diameter, lubricant applied at the wrong point, a calendar wheel set slightly out of position — these are the kinds of errors that cause problems months later. We are slow by design, not by accident. The watches we service are returned when the work is done properly, not when a booking slot dictates it.
Phuket has a warm and humid climate, which affects movement lubricants over time. Owners who wear their watches frequently in this environment may find that servicing intervals are shorter than those recommended by northern-hemisphere manufacturers. If you are unsure whether your watch is due for attention, bring it in and we will have a look at no charge.
